PSY239
Psychological Research Methods.
My half of this covers experimental design and parametric inferential statistical techniques - mainly Analysis of Variance.
I've developed the ANOVA movie to support my lectures about Analysis of Variance. This is a 1.3Mb Shockwave movie, which runs in any browser that has the Shockwave plugins.
PSY241
Cognitive Psychology
I contribute five lectures to this module, covering reasoning and problem solving, as well as a Lab Class on Wason's Tasks.
I was planning to run a Lab Class using the Tower of London, and none of the versions I could find were flexible enough for my purposes, so I wrote my own using Macromedia Director. You can try it out for yourself, and download a version for your own use.
PSY321
Cognition and Emotion
This is an optional module, for which most of our students register. The module explores the role of cognitive processes in mood and emotion, including decision making, social judgements, the causes and maintenance of anxiety and depression, and the role of cognition in craving.
PSY318
Philosophical Issues in Psychology
I lecture on the history of 'mind' within psychology, from Descartes through phrenology to neuroimaging, and give a seminar on 'famous psychologists', run as a balloon-debate (Skinner always wins, for some reason).
